Mineral Food Bank Expansion

Since 2015, the Mineral Food Bank has been a vital lifeline for families in our community, offering essential food assistance to those facing tough times. Located at 116 W Front Street in Mineral, WA, the food bank serves not only Mineral but also Lewis County, Pierce County, and surrounding areas, helping to ensure that no one goes hungry.

What Makes Them Different?

The Mineral Daily Bread Food Bank isn’t just about handing out food—it’s about dignity and respect. In partnership with Food Lifeline and Northwest Harvest, they’ve created a food bank experience that’s different from the norm. They call it “Dignity Shopping”. This means families can choose the food they need, based on their preferences and family size, instead of receiving pre-packaged bags. It’s a small but important way to allow people to feel empowered, respected, and in control, even in challenging times. Each household is welcome to shop twice a month, ensuring they have enough food to get through.

A Lifeline for Growing Need

Right now, the food bank serves almost 10,000 individuals annually and over 650 families every month. These numbers are growing fast, especially as more families in the community struggle with rising costs. In 2024, demand more than doubled, forcing them to reduce the amount of food they could give each family. As the need for food assistance continues to rise, the food bank’s current space just isn’t enough anymore.

The Urgent Need for Expansion

In 2020, the food bank expanded to meet growing demand, but they’ve outgrown that space already. To keep up with the growing need, they need to expand the food bank by 200%. Their plan is to remove the existing trailer currently used for extra storage and enclose the area, adding 1,000 square feet of usable space. This will allow them to install walk-in refrigerators and freezers, add more storage, and ensure that they can continue to meet the needs of the community.

How You Can Make a Difference

The Mineral Lake Lions Club has been a proud partner of the food bank since its inception. But now, the food bank needs help more than ever.

We have a goal to raise $145,000 for the expansion, and there is an urgent need to raise $18,000 by April 1st to qualify for a critical LCIF Hunger Grant. So far, we’ve raised $8,100, but there’s still a long way to go. Every dollar counts. Your contribution—whether it’s a monetary donation, volunteering your time, or spreading the word—will help them continue this important work and ensure no one in the community goes hungry.

Together, We Can Make a Lasting Impact

The Mineral Daily Bread Food Bank is more than just a place to get food. It’s a place where people can feel supported, respected, and cared for. With your help, they can expand its reach and impact, making sure it continues to serve as a vital resource for all those who need it.

Please consider helping us make this expansion a reality so that the Mineral Daily Bread Food Bank can continue to provide food, dignity, and hope for our neighbors in need.

Together, we have the power to effect significant change within our community. We invite you to join us in these upcoming fundraising efforts, confident that our collective dedication will make a profound impact.
