One More Month to Fish! Mineral Lake’s Season Extended Through October 31

More time on the water

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has approved a permanent extension of Mineral Lake’s game fish season. Previously closing September 30, the season now runs from the fourth Saturday in April through October 31 annually.

For 2026, that means an additional month of fishing from October 1–31. Statewide minimum size and daily bag limits apply, and the updated season is reflected in the Fish Washington app.

What made the extension possible?

Mineral Lake’s October closure previously protected fingerling trout planted in the lake each fall. Those young fish were vulnerable to premature harvest and catch-and-release mortality.

Recent upgrades at Mossyrock Trout Hatchery allow staff to hold rainbow trout destined for Mineral Lake later into the fall before releasing them. According to WDFW, that change means the October fishing closure is no longer necessary.

Following a petition submitted in September 2025 and a public rule-making process, WDFW adopted the annual season extension.

Mineral Lake is a 277-acre lake in Lewis County managed primarily for recreational fishing for hatchery rainbow trout. The extended season provides additional opportunities to fish for trout and other game fish.
