March Member Spotlight

Today, we shine the spotlight on Lion Dick Suter, a stalwart member of the Mineral Lake Lions Club for nearly six decades! Alongside his wonderful wife, Rose, Dick’s dedication to our club and community is truly remarkable. Not only does the Suter name have deep ties to Mineral, Dick (along with others) was also instrumental in founding the Mineral Lake Lions Den Campground. His passion and commitment have left an indelible mark on our club’s legacy. Thank you, Dick, for your unwavering service and leadership!

🦁 What motivated you to start volunteering with the Mineral Lake Lions Club?

At the time, it was the only thing to do in town and my brother-in-law was a member and he asked me to join. It was an honor to join back then.

🦁 Can you share a memorable experience from your volunteer work with the Lions?

Getting the Campground. Along with Orvin Christensen, I was instrumental in getting Murry to allow us to use the property as a campground.

🦁 How do you balance volunteering with other aspects of your life?

It’s just something we did. We never argued when we were asked to help, we just did it.

🦁 What skills or qualities do you think make a successful volunteer?

The willingness to help.

🦁 Is there a specific Lions project or initiative you’ve been particularly passionate about?

The eyesight program. I met a woman, at a conference, who was blind, and you couldn’t even tell she was blind. When she shared her story, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

🦁 What advice do you have for others who are considering joining the Lions?

Do it! Being a member of the Mineral Lions Club is great fun and the more you get involved with it, the more you appreciate it.

🦁 Are there any upcoming events or projects you’re excited to be a part of?

The Mineral Lake Lions Den Campground opening back up for the 2024 season.

🦁 How do you envision the future of the Mineral Lake Lions Club, and what role do you see yourself playing in it?

This Lions Club is the heart of Mineral. Without it, there wouldn’t be a Mineral. I’ve done my part, now I can sit back and watch and help when I can.

🦁 Is there anyone you’d like to thank or recognize for their support during your Lions journey?

Orvin Christensen. He was very active, and he was outstanding, in my opinion and he inspired me.

Dick said it well – Being a Lions is great fun and the more you get involved in the activities of the Mineral Lake Lions Club, the more you appreciate it.
